It's been 2 months since the team shot our Spring / Summer campaign in Mallorca and our feet have barely touched the ground, with launching our crochet & cord capsules alongside our mainline range it's been a wonderful whirlwind. Now we have a moment to catch a breath we thought we would share some highlights from our 4 day whistle-stop tour of Mallorca.
WE STAYED
Can Porretí is such an amazing spot. Especially, if like us you are after a no-fuss base to travel around the island from due to its central location. These laid-back apartments are down-to-earth in a quiet rural location offering an outdoor pool, DIY BBQ area and a fresh buffet breakfast is served each morning. Each apartment has a small kitchenette and garden spot with outdoor seating. The staff were super friendly and helpful, a perfect base for us whilst shooting.
WE ATE
Can Toni des puig - Montuïri. We landed on Tuesday night and finding an open restaurant near our accommodation ended up being tricky, but we stumbled across this one small restaurant that was open, and turns out it has amazing reviews. We tucked into their recommendation of goats cheese salad with dates and a honey-mustard dressing, followed by veal in local liquor. We sat in the garden and enjoyed our quiet dinner by moonlight. The perfect relaxing start to our trip.
Restaurante S'Hostal | Shoot spot at Playa de Illetes
If you are after seafood in a stunning location, then this is a great option. Built on a small rock just off the coast on Camp de Mar beach it’s easy to see why this place gets busy (so it’s best to book ahead). The menu features seafood and Mediterranean favourites, as well as traditional Spanish dishes. The atmosphere is casual but sophisticated. We met with friends who were also travelling for work and it was a great spot to watch the sun set over the island. We recommend the shared platter of black rice with fried squid with green salad. They also have a good selection of Mallorcan wines on the menu.
Post final shoot day, hungry and tired we strolled the square in Sineu and stumbled across Sa Fàbrica. We checked the online reviews and thought it could be a good place to try (the reviews are mixed but averaging at 4.2 on Google - we would give it a 4.6) Meats are cooked over a wood fire and are served with seasonal vegetables. We went for the black Mallorcan pork loin, the flavour was incredible. Sa Fàbrica is a must-visit establishment for meat lovers seeking delicious grilled dishes in this sweet little village. We will definitely hit this spot on our next visit.
La Rosa - Palma
For a lunchtime pitstop La Rosa is the spot. Described as old-fashioned local with a vanguard heart. La Rosa serves quality tapas and portions of homemade and authentic food. We ate the dish of the day which was St Peter’s fish with “tumbet with a side of tortilla and drank the Vermouth which is served on tap. A great venue with charming interiors, we will be back!
Joan Miró Museum | Restaurante Illeta
Restaurante S'Hostal - Montuïri
For our last night on the island, we kept it simple. We stopped off at Restaurante S'Hostal post beach after hearing about their Pa amb oli which is one of the most traditional dishes in Mallorca. Bread with oil, a simple recipe made of essential ingredients of the Mediterranean diet, it's easy to find throughout the island. Here it is served with mallorcan ham and green olives. We soaked up the last of the evening sun outside this pretty village spot and drank their recommended sangria
WE SAW
Fundació Miró Mallorca
As we were there for the shoot, it didn't leave us much time for sightseeing but we did manage to squeeze in an early morning visit to the Joan Miró museum. It comprises a main building exhibiting 6000 works donated by the artist, including paintings and sculptures, a library, a sculpture garden and Miró's studio. The studio Sert was designed for Miró by Josip Lluís Sert in the same year and was used by the artist until his death in 1983. To see his works up close in the environment in which he painted them was incredible. The huge, scaled artworks with bold mark-making and colours jumped off the walls and left a visual imprint in your mind. If you are headed to Palma, it's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Joan Miró Museum | Cala Agulla
WE SUNBATHED
Post Joan Miró Museum we took the opportunity to spend our last afternoon at the beach. We researched some nice beaches that we hadn't been to before and landed on Cala Agulla. Bliss! It was a gorgeous drive to the coast through countryside and down through a pine forest, past some horse ranches (noted for our next visit!) as you clear the forest you end up on the most beautiful white sandy beach with turquoise water. The beach has loungers, a small bar and a restaurant. We tucked ourselves round the corner in a quite spot to enjoy the last of the sun.
We have been to the island before and no matter how many times we return, it never fails to take your breath away. Mallorca - we will be back!
